In addition to last year’s youth XC race, which is exclusively for riders under 18, we are also excited to host both UCI and Amateur Category racing for both XCC and XCO! The course is a thrilling mix of technical features, flowy sections, tight singletrack, and doubletrack areas perfect for strategic passing. It’s dynamic, demanding, and guaranteed to keep even the most experienced racers sharp and focused. Whether you’re here to push your limits or just have a great time competing, the Rock Creek Rumble promises excitement at every turn!

Race INFORMATION

Welcome to the Rock Creek Rumble! This race is open to youth, amateur, and UCI category racers held at the Ride Rock Creek Mountain Bike Park in Zirconia, NC. The race is USA Cycling-sanctioned and organized by the professional staff of NCCX and RRC.

RACE COURSE:

  • The race will be held on an approximately 2.1-mile course with 420ft elevation gain per lap. Racers will complete multiple laps with a target time duration as listed in the registration.

Race NOTES:

What is the Rock Creek Rumble? It’s a UCI cross-country and short track race, featuring a USA Cycling Amateur and Junior races in the schedule.

 What is a race age? The race age is your age at the end of the year – ex: if you are 15 now but turning 16 this year, your race age is 16.
 

What category do I race? Categories are decided on license category and race age. You must have a UCI licnese to compete in the UCI Elite and Junior categories. For USA Cycling categories woul will need a USA Cycling raceing license. Both of these can be purchased through https://usacycling.org/get-started

Is there on site registration? No, registration is online only and closes on Wednesday, March 12.

Can I pre-ride? Pre-ride will be open Friday, March 13 from 2pm  to 4:30pm. There will also be pre-ride Saturday at 8:00am-9:00am and Sunday 8:00pm-8:30pm.

Packet pick-up: Riders and coaches can check in and get race numbers/coaches pre-ride plates starting at 1pm on Friday. All riders accessing the course must check in prior to riding.

What’s the course like? The course is a mixture of grass start/finish/feed zone, double track, and single track, with lots of areas for passing as well as using your cornering skills! The course has multiple line options for riders depending on age/skill level, and is very fun to ride!

What’s included? All racers will be professionally timed, with results submitted to USAC/UCI. Riders will also receive a discount for a bike park shuttle pass at Ride Rock Creek anytime during the race weekend! Top three in each category will get some fun awards from Ride Rock Creek. We’ll also have an announcer, food trucks, coffee trucks, and more fun!

Can we camp? Camping will not be available this year.

Can coaches/parents pre-ride? Yes, coaches/parents can preride but must sign up in advance and submit the required waivers at registration.

Other things to know:

Cell service at the race venue is limited depending on carrier. Public wifi is available at the park shop.

Team area will be available for teams or large groups to set up near the start/finish area. If you set up tents, please stake/weight them.

Ride Rock Creek Rumble UCI XC Skills Clinic

Overview:

This clinic is designed for beginner to intermediate racers looking to improve skills, form, and speed ahead of the UCI Rock Creek Rumble XC event. The clinic will have an emphasis on line choice, features, and racecraft with an opportunity to gain early access to both short track and cross country race courses prior to the event . You can expect general instruction from Walker Shaw and Jack Brown with one-on-one tips throughout the session. We will do multiple full laps of each course and with frequent stops to break down key sections of the courses. 

Group size:

12 riders max per session in order to ensure a good coach-to-rider ratio. 

 

Target Riders:

This clinic is designed with beginner to intermediate racers (Cat 1 -3) in mind. This clinic is for ages 10 and up. 

 

Focus areas:

During this clinic, riders will go through multiple drills to improve their performance on race day. These include, but are not limited to, starting technique, bottle handups, cornering, features, technical climbing, and general track breakdown. You will receive professional and immediate feedback to help you progress and refine your skills in real-time.

 

What to bring:

  • Fully functioning, ready-to-ride mountain bike (e-bike, full suspension, hardtail)
    • We recommend riding the bike you plan to race
  • Helmet and any additional protective gear you feel is needed
  • Water and snacks for at least 3 hours of riding

  • Session is from 10:00AM – 1:00PM
    • we recommend getting there a few minutes early to be prepared
  • Meet in Ride Rock Creek’s lower parking lot
  • Park Pass is included, limited to duration of the clinic
    • Riders are not permitted to ride at the park or on race courses outside of the clinic

Pricing:

The clinic is $150 for the session
