The 2023 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships will take place at Ride Rock Creek in Zirconia, N.C. on October 24-27, 2024.
The Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championship is the largest collegiate cycling event that USA Cycling hosts. The event will crown varsity and club National Champions in Cross-Country, Short Track, Downhill, Dual Slalom, and Team Relay. An Omnium National Title will also be awarded to the best overall varsity and club teams at the end of the weekend.
“For the past few years, Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals has been out West, and now we’re excited to bring Nationals to a strong collegiate cycling community like the Southeast, and at a national-caliber venue like Ride Rock Creek,” said Kyle Knott, USA Cycling National Events Director.
Ride Rock Creek has successfully hosted 3 National Championship events over the past two years. World Cup Racer and professional downhill mountain bike racer, Neko Mulally, founded the park on the edge of DuPont State Forest and started building in 2022. The park is growing and currently features seven downhill-specific trails with a newly built National Championship Dual Slalom course.
Mulally said, “Rock Creek is excited to expand our venue to include endurance courses for Cross Country and Short Track. Collegiate Nationals is an awesome event with a lot of passion, and we’re looking forward to hosting it here in North Carolina.”
New to Collegiate National Champs in the past, Ride Rock Creek will be offering open racing on the downhill track! This race races will take place during the same timeframe as the collegiate racing. The four categories offered will be: Junior Men’s Open 18 and under, Men’s Open 19+, Junior Women’s Open 18 and under, and Women’s Open 19+. These races will not be crowning national champions. We designed these races for two reasons: to allow juniors to get a firsthand experience of what racing in college is like and to give the opportunity to anyone else over the junior age to compete in another fun race to close out the 2024 season!

October 24-27, 2024 | Ride Rock Creek Race Finish Zone
Downhill: A gravity time trial competition consisting of riders racing one at a time, against the clock, from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Downhill races are generally technically challenging with courses often featuring a combination of high speeds, jumps, dropoffs, and other technical features.
Dual Slalom: A gated gravity competition where two competitors race head-to-head down two similar, but separate, courses. Following a qualification round, riders race against each other in an elimination format (heats) to determine a winner. Dual slalom courses often feature bermed corners, jumps, and other technical trail features.
October 24-27, 2024 | The Ride Rock Creek XC Track
Cross Country: This endurance-oriented event is a mass-start competition, divided by category or ability, which typically features 100-150 riders competing over rough terrain including everything from unpaved fire roads to technical singletrack filled with rocks, roots and ruts.
Short Track: Similar to a criterium in road cycling, short track cross-county was introduced as a spectator-friendly discipline. It is an endurance-oriented event that features off-road racing on a short circuit. Traversing rough and often steep terrain, a short-track cross-country race typically only lasts 20 minutes as competitors start and finish fast. Oftentimes, cross-country and short-track bikes do not feature rear suspension in an attempt to save weight, though it may be a worthy compromise on some courses.
Team Relay: Competing on the same course as the cross country race, each team will have up to four riders with at least one female and one male, and no more than two males or two females racing one lap each. Potential team compositions would be: FM; FMM; FFM; FFMM.

Our main parking area in the field will be open parking for all teams/racers attending this event. We have plenty of room for teams arriving with trucks, trailers, and buses. Please note this is a grass field so plan accordingly for weather.

DuPont State Recreational Forest is an outdoor lover’s dream with many waterfalls and 86 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails on protected 10,000 acres. Located between Brevard and Hendersonville.
The Pisgah National Forest is a land of mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and heavily forested slopes. Comprised of over 500,000 acres, the Pisgah is primarily a hardwood forest with whitewater rivers, waterfalls and hundreds of miles of mountain biking and hiking trails.
Jump Off Rock is a scenic overlook, which provides a panoramic view of rolling pastures, the Blue Ridge and Pisgah mountain ranges. Jump Off Rock also holds an Indian legend that has been passed down for many, many years. Jump Off is located about 5 miles from downtown at the end of Laurel Park Hwy. The park is open daily, sunrise to sunset. No admission charge.
